Monograph Proposals/Submission Moratorium

2025-10-08

The University of Warwick Press (UWP) is currently not accepting proposals or submissions for new monographs. This is to allow time and space for a project which is exploring the potential redevelopment of the Press into a more effective and sustainable platform for academic publication. This project is being led by the recently appointed University Press Manager, Dr Gareth J Johnson, who is in the process of considering the publication landscape and options open to the Press. Dr Johnson was until recently the Managing Editor-in-Chief of the Exchanges journal, which has been published on UWP since 2013.

Note: This moratorium does NOT affect submissions and proposals to those journals within the UWP family, who will continue their operations as normal – please see their individual sites for more details of their open calls for papers.

Meanwhile, the Press Manager’s work is expected to culminate in a business case and recommendations for the University to consider further and to inform their final decision on the Press’ future configuration. As this work is not expected to conclude until mid-2026, it was agreed in the interim to temporarily suspend new monograph proposals and projects until the future scope, scale and operation of the Press comes into sharper focus. Any submissions already under formal consideration in collaboration with the Press, prior to this temporary suspension, are unaffected and will continue development as normal.

A key part of Dr Johnson’s work will be speaking with stakeholders across and outside the University, to explore their vision, insights and experiences with new university presses and publication practices in general. While some organised engagements are anticipated, in the interim the Press also welcomes informal approaches from scholars, research students and publishing practitioners who may be interested in discussing their thoughts in this area.
